Microneedling in Pittsburgh, PA

Smooth Scars, Build Collagen, Reveal Radiance

Microneedling is a collagen-stimulating treatment that improves skin tone and texture, smooths fine lines and wrinkles, reduces scarring, and rejuvenates your complexion. Using medical-grade SkinPen technology, we create controlled micro-injuries that trigger your skin's natural healing process for firmer, smoother, more youthful-looking skin with minimal downtime.

What is Microneedling?

At Radiance at Fluhme, we use the FDA-cleared SkinPen, the only Class II medical device clinically proven to improve acne scars and rejuvenate aging skin. Suitable for all skin types and tones, microneedling addresses fine lines, wrinkles, uneven texture, scarring, large pores, and sun damage with little to no downtime. We can enhance results by adding PRP or PRF to amplify collagen production and healing.

How Does Microneedling Work?

During treatment, ultra-fine needles create thousands of microscopic, controlled micro-injuries in the skin's surface. These micro-channels trigger your body's natural healing response, stimulating collagen and elastin production. Over the following weeks and months, your skin rebuilds itself from within for smoother, firmer, more youthful results

General Pre-Care:

  • Avoid Active Ingredients
Discontinue retinoids, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and other exfoliating products 5-7 days before treatment.
  • No Sun Exposure
Avoid direct sun exposure, tanning beds, and spray tans for at least 2 weeks before treatment. Sunburned skin cannot be treated.
  • Stop Blood Thinners
Discontinue aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, and vitamin E 7 days prior to minimize bruising (consult your doctor first).
  • No Waxing or Harsh Treatments
Avoid waxing, chemical peels, laser treatments, or other aggressive procedures for 2 weeks prior.
  • Arrive with Clean Skin
Come with a clean, makeup-free face. No lotions, serums, or products on treatment day.
  • Reschedule if Active Breakouts
If you have active cold sores, infections, or open wounds, reschedule your appointment.

General Post-Care:

  • Keep Skin Clean
Gently cleanse with lukewarm water and a mild cleanser 24 hours after treatment. Pat dry, don't rub.
  • Moisturize Frequently
Apply a gentle, hydrating moisturizer multiple times daily to keep skin hydrated and support healing.
  • Avoid Sun Exposure
Stay out of direct sun for at least 2 weeks. Wear broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily and reapply every 2 hours.
  • No Makeup for 24 Hours
Wait at least 24 hours before applying makeup to allow micro-channels to close and reduce infection risk.
  • Avoid Heat and Sweat
Skip hot showers, saunas, hot tubs, steam rooms, and strenuous exercise for 48-72 hours.
  • Don't Pick or Scratch
As skin begins to flake or peel (days 3-5), do not pick, scratch, or manually remove any peeling skin.
  • Skip Active Ingredients
Avoid retinoids, acids, and exfoliating products for 5-7 days post-treatment until skin has fully healed.
  • Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of water to support your skin's healing and collagen-building process from within.

Microneedling FAQ'S

Following treatment, your skin may appear pink or red, similar to a mild sunburn, for 24-48 hours. You may also experience slight dryness, tightness, or flaking for 3-5 days as your skin begins its healing process. Most patients return to work and normal activities the next day, and you can apply makeup after 24 hours. The body immediately begins healing the micro-channels by producing more collagen and elastin, resulting in smoother, firmer, more youthful-looking skin over the following weeks and months.

You'll notice an immediate glow from increased circulation, but the real magic happens over time. Within 2-3 weeks, you'll see improved texture and tone. Over the next 4-6 months, as collagen production ramps up, you'll see continued improvements in fine lines, wrinkles, scarring, pore size, and overall skin quality. Results are cumulative—each treatment builds upon the last for progressively better outcomes.

Most patients need 3-6 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart for optimal results. For mild concerns like fine lines or texture, 3 treatments may suffice. For deeper acne scars, significant sun damage, or advanced aging, 6 or more sessions may be recommended. Maintenance treatments every 6-12 months help sustain your results. During your consultation, we'll create a personalized treatment plan based on your specific concerns and goals.

We apply a topical numbing cream 30 minutes before treatment to minimize discomfort. Most patients describe the sensation as mild pressure or light scratching—not painful. Sensitivity varies by area (forehead and cheeks are less sensitive than around the nose or lips). The procedure is well-tolerated, and any discomfort is brief and manageable.

Immediately after, your skin will appear pink or red and may feel warm and tight, similar to a sunburn. This typically subsides within 24-48 hours. Days 3-5, you may experience light flaking or peeling as dead skin cells shed. Your skin will feel dry, so moisturizing frequently is essential. By day 7, most visible side effects resolve, and you'll notice your skin looking brighter and smoother. Over the following months, collagen remodeling continues, and results keep improving.

Side effects are minimal when performed by trained professionals. Common temporary reactions include redness, swelling, dryness, and flaking. Rarely, patients may experience bruising, pinpoint bleeding (petechiae), or temporary hyperpigmentation. Serious complications like infection or scarring are extremely rare with proper technique and aftercare. Following post-care instructions carefully minimizes risks and optimizes results.
